Thanks — I’m quite pleased with my recent pictures. I’m sure I’ll always see things that I think could be better, but especially when I look at my older stuff, I can see a big improvement.

Good question. The languages are quite close — maybe 90% of the words are the same or similar. But the other 10% of words are different and overall the pronunciation is very different. Very different — I was really surprised to hear Norwegian after being exposed to so much Danish.

But, to get to your question, the Danes speak Danish in Norway, and understand enough Norwegian to get by. It helps that Norwegians that work in places like ski resorts are used to speaking to Danes and often use Danish words.

The ski slopes at Hovden remind me of Sun Mountain resort at Winthrop. Consistently great pictures throughout–the colors in “a short walk” are especially impressive. Just an intuition but I don’t think it’s your fancy new equipment–it seems to me you’re working harder at your shots.

I was wondering, when the Danes are in Norway, do they just speak Danish? I understand that the languages are quite similar (at least, standard Bøkmal Norge resembles Danish). I’d imagine with the Swedes they just resort to English.

Well, there were pictures of me, but I was either falling down or already down. Oh, and I was often crying too. So I left those out.

Dirty glasses aside, I think that some of them are shots that I wouldn’t have attempted without the fancy new Vibration Reduction lens that you got me for Christmas. The fourth shot, for example, had very little light and you can see that Karen and Anne are a little blurry. It was probably a quarter-second shot, so it’s amazing that it came out at all.

And yes, there are some duplicates. I decided to put some of the flashier ones up top to try to entice semi-interested readers.

Are photos #2 and #46 identical?
Also, great news — I figured out a way to clear up your fuzzy pictures. A little Windex applied to my eyeglasses will do the trick. At first, I thought you were shooting through your Kodak Instamatic.

Very interesting photos, but I was hoping to see a couple of YOU, in action, not just mugging for the camera. Is it just me, or are the enlarged photos cloudy? They look fine in reduced form but not too sharp when enlarged.
