Bella Hotel

From our bedroom window we have a good view of the Bella Center convention center, where the largest hotel in Scandinavia is nearing completion, and opens in May. (It apparently goes by the name Bella Sky Comwell hotel, a name that only a board of directors would approve.) And although it may appear that I’ve photo-shopped these pictures, I have not. Colored lights illuminate the hotel, alternating every 20 seconds or so.

As you can see, the hotel features two towers that lean at 15 degrees in opposite directions, joined by a walkway at the top. The top of each tower is thereby shifted 20 meters or 65 feet away from the bottom of the tower. Together the towers provide 814 rooms, 30 conference rooms, 3 restaurants, and a spa. There’s also a bar (called the Sky Bar, naturally) on the top floor of one of the towers.

It’s a fancy design, no doubt, but the rates are pretty much in line with other tower hotels in Copenhagen (starting at about $200 for a very small room.) But the chances that we’ll ever be compelled to stay there are pretty much non-existent, so if it is an unforgettable experience, we’ll be missing it.

Nevertheless, it’s a whole lot nicer to look at than a typical tower, and fits in with the funky architecture for which Ørestad is well known.

No my suspicious friend, no Photoshop!

BUT the night shots are long-exposure, taken on a tripod between 2 and 30 seconds, and that really brings out the colors.

… plus my camera has a big button on it that says “Photoshop”…
