Danish Christmas

This year, before heading to New Mexico for Christmas, I spent a few days with Lisbeth and her family in Vejle. It was really nice. The whole family is sweet and they make me feel very welcome. And it doesn’t hurt that Lisbeth’s mother Karen is a great cook!

Most of the time we were inside eating, playing games (I’d never played “RISK” before), and talking. The weather was cloudy and chilly, but that didn’t stop Lisbeth, Hanne, and me from talking a long walk.

Lisbeth and I had both been too busy prior to leaving Copenhagen to do much shopping, so we went into Vejle and shopped for a few hours.

Well, it’s probably more accurate to say that Lisbeth shopped while I took pictures…

Despite the fact that it was probably the busiest shopping day of the year, it wasn’t too crowded on the gågade (the pedestrian shopping district).

The Danes celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve, but I left on the 23rd, so I missed the actual opening of gifts (and, I’m told, the dancing around the Christmas tree.)

But, before I left Frits and Karen gave me my gift: a great set of Helly Hansen thermal underwear for our upcoming ski week in Norway in February.

We got up early on the 23rd and Lisbeth drove me to the train station. The train took me directly to the Copenhagen airport, where I flew to D.C. and from there to Albuquerque, where mom and dad picked me up. It was a long day.

I have a lot of pictures from Christmas in New Mexico, but technical problems with my hosting company are preventing me from posting them right now…
